Carnglaze Caverns is an interesting day out for the family and one to consider particularly for 'rainy days'.
Originally an open cast quarry Carnglaze is set in just over 6 acres of ancient oak woodland and features 3 hand createrd caverns of cathedaral proportions, the legacy of miners efforts some 300 years ago.
Your self-guided tour of the caverns takes you 150 meters into the hillside and 60 meters underground. You will discover and undergroud lake with crystal clear blue/green water. and have the opportunity to browse a comprehensive collection of minerals mined in the South West.
Carnglaze is home to 5 species of bats and is also used as a Wedding Venue.
The temperature underground is a constant 10 degrees Centrigrade so make sure you take appropriate clothing and footwear.
As well as the caverns Carnglaze has a wonderful woodland walk which has a beautiful array of bluebells in Spring, normally late April to mid-May. The woodlands are home to many animals and you may well spot roe deer or foxes, and in the sky above birds of prey often circle.
